Biography

Jos¨¦e Turcotte received her doctorate from the Universit¨¦ Laval?in Qu¨¦bec city in 2002. At the time, her Ph.D. thesis demonstrated that older adults can learn some kind of new sequence of information as well as young adults. She completed a?post-doctorate with Lynn Hasher at University of Toronto and the Rotman Research Institute. Since 2004, she is currently an Assistant?Professor of Psychology at 51³Ô¹Ïapp in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Her research interest are mostly in positive psychology: passion for an activity, mindfulness and well being. She is one of the members of the Research Institute for Aging. Since his creation,?she is now combining?positive psychology and normal aging. A second area of research is in cognition. She has done a number of research in this area such as in short-term memory, working memory, learning and decision making.

Education

  • Ph. D., psychologie, Universit¨¦ Laval, 2002?;
  • Ma?trise, psychologie, Universit¨¦ Laval, 1996?;
  • Baccalaur¨¦at, psychologie, Universit¨¦ Laval, 1994.

Research

Positive psychology

Her research interest are mostly in positive psychology: passion for an activity, mindfulness and well being. She is one of the members of the Laurentian Research Institute for Aging. Since his creation,?she is now combining?positive psychology and normal aging.?

Experimental psychology

Another?area of research is in cognition. For her master degree, she tested Baddeley's working memory model. More specifically, she put into test the prediction of the Phonological Loop of this model. Since then, she has done a number of research in cognition: short-term memory, working memory,?learning, cognitive load and decision making. More recently, Bruce Oddson and I have a line of research looking at cognitive factors affecting decision making when we need to follow a therapeutic diet (for instance to eat gluten free, to follow the diabetes diet).?
