University Transfer Applicants

51勛圖app has a number of advanced standing policies, recognizing prior learning in many post-secondary institutions. These agreements are designed to provide better student mobility through formal recognition of credits/programs at each institution. Students who have completed some university studies may be eligible for admission to programs offered at 51勛圖app. Transfer credits may be awarded based on prior studies, but cannot be determined until you apply for admission and submit official transcripts.

For full-time studies:

  • Please contact your previous institution to arrange for your official transcript(s)* from high school, college or university to be forwarded to our Office of Admissions.

For part-time studies, please send the following documents to Laurentian's Office of Admissions :

  • official transcript(s)* from high school, college or university attended

A qualifying year program is available to graduates of a 3 or 4 year B.A. or B.Sc. program who wish to continue their studies at the Master’s level at Laurentian and do not meet the minimum entrance requirements for their desired program. Please note that completion of a Qualyfying Year does not guarantee admission to a graduate program. Each case is evaluated individually.

Please note: In order to be eligible to complete a qualifying year in the Master of Social Work program, students must apply to the Master's program and be selected by the department.

 

How to apply

You already have a degree from a recognized university, and would like to complete another degree?

 

3-year Arts & Science programs

To be admitted to a 3-year second degree program, a student must:

  • Have completed a degree at a recognized university, without having failed more than 30 credits in the first degree program;
  • Have completed no more than 18 credits (in the first degree) in the area of concentration of the requested second degree program.

Students must complete a minimum of 36 new credits at Laurentian in order to earn a second degree in a 3- year Bachelor of Arts and 48 new credits in order to earn a second degree in a 3-year Bachelor of Science.

 

4-year degree programs

To be admitted to a 4-year second degree program, a student must:

  • Have completed a degree at a recognized university, without having failed more than 30 credits in the first degree program;
  • Have completed no more than 24 credits (in the first degree) in the area of specialization of the requested second degree program.

Students must complete a minimum of 60 new credits at Laurentian to earn a second degree in most 4-year undergraduate programs. A minimum of 72 new credits is required to earn a second degree in a Bachelor of Engineering.

How to apply

If you are a 51勛圖app graduate, please download, complete and return the  to the Office of Admissions at admissions@laurentian.ca.

For all other university graduates, follow the application steps under the How to Apply section above.

 

Students who have graduated with a three-year degree may choose to complete the requirements of the four-year degree. A second degree will not be conferred but completion of the four-year degree requirements will be noted on the student's transcript. Students who upgrade a three-year degree to a four-year degree may exchange the diploma for a four-year diploma of the same kind (example: a four-year B.Sc. diploma may only replace a three-year B.Sc.).

Criteria:

  • a minimum of 2 years must have passed between the 3-year degree and the upgrade;
  • the student must follow either the major + minor or specialization option;
  • the student will maintain the 3-year degree, and get a 4-year degree as well at the conclusion of the upgrade;
  • the student has to complete (and pay for) admission in order to upgrade;
  • the student will be registered in the appropriate 4-year program, and graduation status is to be determined by a regular degree audit;
  • the original degree has to be from Laurentian in order to qualify to upgrade. Others are required to take a second degree.
