The Charter of Rights and Freedoms

This course studies the political and social impacts of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms on Canadian politics. It does so by evaluating its overall effects on policy-making, courts, interest groups and citizens. It will include a consideration of these effects in the context of key Charter provisions and their interpretation, including fundamental freedoms (religion, expression), and equality rights (gender, sexual identity), and Indigenous rights. (Students may not retain credit for JURI 4601, POLI 4725E and POLI 4727.) PREREQ: 24 JURI or POLI credits. 3 credits. (Sem. 3)
