Additional Qualifications (PCTE)

Professional Continuing Teacher Education

The Professional Continuing Teacher Education (PCTE) unit at 51勛圖app provides Additional Qualification (AQ) and Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) courses of the highest professional quality. All AQ and ABQ courses reflect the Ontario College of Teachers' Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession. 

 

  • Our AQ courses allow teachers to further develop their knowledge and skills in the divisions or subjects for which they are already qualified or to acquire new knowledge and skills in other subjects.

  • Our ABQ courses allow teachers to add another division or subject area of general education to their existing qualifications.

Admission Requirements

Additional Qualifications (AQ)

Your registration becomes official only when the required documentation has been received and you have paid your tuition. You will receive a confirmation email from our team when your application is processed. 

 

AQ Courses - Part 1

  • Complete Registration Form

  • Good standing with the or OCT applicant if you are a new Ontario BEd. graduate

    • Members holding a Transitional Certificate of Qualification are eligible to enroll in AQ courses. However, they must have a Certificate of Qualification and Registration before completing the AQ course for it to be listed on their certificate.

      Members not holding a Certificate of Qualification and Registration by the end of the AQ course will be considered by the College to have taken the course for personal learning purposes. The AQ course will never appear on the member’s Certificate of Qualification and Registration.

 

AQ Courses - Part 2

  • Complete Registration Form

  • Good standing with the or OCT applicant if you are a new Ontario BEd. graduate

  • Proof of completion of Part 1 of this course (photocopy of transcript or Certificate of Qualification on which the course appears)

  • Statement of Teaching Experience completed by your superintendent. At least one year of teaching experience or equivalent is required to be enrolled in the second part of a course.

 

AQ Courses - Part 3

  • Complete Registration Form

  • Good standing with the or OCT applicant if you are a new Ontario BEd. graduate

  • Proof of completion of Part 2 of this course (photocopy of transcript or Certificate of Qualification on which the course appears)

  • Statement of Teaching Experience completed by your superintendent. At least one year of teaching experience or equivalent is required to be enrolled in the second part of a course.

 

 

Additional Basic Qualifications (ABQ)

Your registration becomes official only when the required documentation has been received and you have paid your tuition. You will receive a confirmation email from our team when your application is processed.

 

Record Evaluation for ABQs (Intermediate and Senior Only)

To apply for our Additional Basic Qualifications courses, you must apply for a confirmation code. 

You must submit a copy of your university/college transcript to determine if you are eligible. This is the copy of your transcript that includes your first degree.  Please send copies to qba-evaluations@laurentian.ca

Please indicate the desired course in your message, your OCT number and phone number. *

Intermediate division requires 12 credits in the subject area while the senior division requires 18 credits. 

If you are determined eligible, you will receive a CONFIRMATION CODE from qba-evaluations@laurentian.ca. You will need this to complete the registration form.

 

Additional Basic Qualification Requirements for the Intermediate Division

  • To apply for an Intermediate Division ABQ course, you must apply for a

  • Copy of University Bachelor's Degree - Transcript

  • 12 credits in the field of study

  • Completed Registration Form

  • Good standing with the or OCT applicant if you are a new Ontario BEd. graduate

 

Additional Basic Qualification Requirements for the Senior Division

  • To apply for an Senior Division ABQ course, you must apply for a

  • Copy of University Bachelor's Degree - Transcript

  • 18 credits in the field of study

  • Completed Registration Form

  • Good standing with the or OCT applicant if you are a new Ontario BEd. graduate

Tuition Fees - AQ - $675

Tuition Fees - ABQ  - $750

Your payment must be made online. We no longer accept credit cards or cheques. You will receive instructions on how to make your payment after your application is processed.

Course Withdrawal and Reimbursement

Individuals enrolled in an Additional Qualification or Additional Basic Qualification course, who withdraw from a course, must notify the Centre for Academic Development in writing at: aq-courses@laurentian.ca

Fall, Winter and Spring Session

A full refund will be given to the student who withdraws prior to the start of the course. A 50% refund will be given to a student who withdraws from the course during the first and second week. No refunds will be given if the course has started its third week. No withdrawals are allowed after four weeks. 

Summer Session

A full refund will be given to the student who withdraws prior to the start of the course. A 50% refund will be given to a student who withdraws from the course during the first week. No refunds will be given if the course has started its second week. No withdrawals are allowed after three weeks. 

Please note that refunds may take 15-20 business days.
