Message from Dr Eric R. Gauthier, Chair.
The result of the merger of the Departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry and Forensic Science, 51勛圖app’s School of Natural Sciences is the newest and largest academic unit in the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Architecture.
Located in the Science I Building on the beautiful 51勛圖app campus, our School offers a variety of programs in the life and physical sciences at the B.Sc. level (in English and French), as well as programs at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. Several of our programs are accredited from external agencies (Canadian Society for Chemistry - CSC; Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission - FEPAC). In addition to being a sign of good quality, program accreditation increases the professional mobility of our graduates, since their degree is recognized throughout Canada and abroad.
Our School prides itself in providing hands-on training. In addition to several courses having a laboratory component, many opportunities are available to our students to gain valuable career experience: they can work alongside their professors as undergraduate interns or gain valuable experience through Co-op or Internship placements. This prepares our graduates to face a competitive job market or to undertake advanced studies.
Hailing from around the globe, our faculty members are actively involved in research projects covering a wide range of fields, including science communication, environmental biology, biomedical science, forensic toxicology, materials science, neurobiology, zoology as well as applied and theoretical chemistry. The unit boasts 3 Canada Research Chairs, and houses the Center for Evolutionary Ecology and Ethical Conservation as well as the Vale Living with Lakes Center, a world-renowned research center on the big environmental issues of our day
